Dollar Tree Trip this Week!

I have since been back to the dollar store to pick up some chips, 2 freezer items, and some hot dog rolls, but here is what I picked up earlier this week...
3 Hand Soaps (these are NOT anti-bacterial, I have been having a horrible time with my skin drying and cracking, and it is from anti-bacterial soaps, just an FYI) $3
2 pkgs Whole Flax Seeds (I've been grinding these into smoothies in the morning for Joe and I) $2
1 Sandpaper Set (for another project) $1
+ $0.24 Tax
Total oop: $6.24 -- I LOVE the Dollar Store!

Cute Wooden Rooster and Hen Magnets!

I had to share these cute little magnets I made last week.  They are made from the cheap thin wooden cut outs from Micheal's, and I've had them for a few years now, collecting dust in a box, so I decided to do something with them.  I painted them with paint from my stash, let them dry, and then sanded them to lighten the look of the paint, and sanded the edges as well, for a more rustic look.  Then I took an advertising magnet that came in the mail for something.  I cut two squares, and hot glued the magnets onto the backs of the rooster and hen.  Once the glue was set, I hung them on the fridge, and I must say that I think they turned out quite adorable!

Little Shopping catch-up from last week!

These are two shopping trips from last week that I forgot to post, so here they are...
I stopped into Walgreen's one day last week and did three transactions to stock up on some wipes.
2 Wipes @ $0.99 ea = $1.98 + $0.12 Tax = $2.10 oop, Earned a $1.50 RR = Net cost: $0.60/2
Rinse and Repeat x 2
In the end I paid $6.30 oop, got 6 pkgs of Cottonelle wipes and ended up with $4.50 in RR's.  If I would have remembered to bring my other RR's with me, my oop would have been a lot lower, but that's okay.  Ending Net cost: $1.80/6 pkgs - I'll take that :-)

Saturday evening I stopped into Rite-Aid because I had $5 in UP+Rewards expiring.  They didn't have any of the weekly deals in stock, so I just bought a few necessities!
2 boxes Kleenex tissues + lotion $2.49 ea - $1.24 ea clearance = 2/$2.50 (can never have too many tissues with my never ending cold - BOO!)
2 bags Utz potato chips (1 not pictured) $0.99 ea on Sale = 2/$1.98
4 $1 boxes of Quaker chewy Granola bars - $0.20 ea card discount - $1/2 MC x 2 = 4/$1.20
+ $0.15 Tax
- $5 UP+Rewards
Total OOP: $0.83!

Works for me Weds: Homemade Fruit and Jell-o Cups

When my husband was working he LOVED the fruit and gelatin bowls that Dole has out.  I was glad that he was eating some fruit without me begging, however, at $2.50 a 4 pk, it was getting a little outrageous.  So, I decided that I could make them at home for a fraction of the cost, and I did, and continue to today!  All you need is some fruit (I used Geisha canned peaches, drained, recently on sale at Walgreen's for $0.79), and a box of gelatin, any flavor will do, but Joe's favorites are orange and strawberry (usually about $0.20 a box at Rite-Aid and Walgreen's on sale).

I bought these handy little plastic containers awhile ago, and I been reusing them for years now.  All you do is separate your fruit amongst your plastic containers (1 box of gelatin makes about 4 or 5, depending on the size of your container).  Mix up your gelatin and pour in evenly into each plastic container, over the fruit.  Top each container with it's lid, and put them in the refrigerator to solidify.  I usually make a double batch of gelatin with 1 can of peaches, so that there is enough for the week.
Cost for ready-made 4 pk: $2.50
Cost for homemade version: $0.79 + $0.20 = $0.99/4-5 servings
= a savings of at least $1.51 per package!
If you decide to try these, please leave a comment on how it went, and what fruit and gelatin flavor you used!  Enjoy!
